Happy Father's Day!

Image
Happy Father's Day Dad! From a little girl to today, you have taught me many life lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. You taught me that things will not always go the way that I want them, but that is O.K. because you have to be able to work with you have.  You have always been there when I have needed you and have showed me how a man should treat not only a woman but everyone around.  You have taught me to love and care for others and to treat them the way I want to be treated.  You have taught me to not be afraid and to try new things.  You have taught me to use my voice and to stand up for myself.  Most importantly, you have taught us all to be who we are no matter what happens in life.  Happy Father's Day! I Love You!

Easy Headband Updo

Image
Being a full time college student and working, finding time to do my hair every morning can be difficult. Most days I just end up putting my hair into ponytail and calling it done. Other days, I will actually take the time to do my hair. My favorite go to hair style is an easy way to keep my hair pulled back but still looking cute.  For this hairstyle you will need a headband and some bobby pins. To start, make a part starting at your hair line, about an inch long. This part can be in the middle or off to one side. It depends on what you prefer. Place the headband on top of all your hair. Putting the headband on this way makes twisting the hair easier. At this point I like to take a few bobby pins to pin the band to my hair to make sure it stays in place all day.  Starting closest to your face, twist the hair back and tuck it underneath the band. Do this on both sides until the twists meet at the back of your head.  Then fold up and tuck the rem...

How to Deal with the Cold

As I lay here in my nice warm bed with my dogs writing this, it is currently -8 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill of -27 degrees Fahrenheit. That seems to be the norm lately. I guess I shouldn't complain because it could be a lot worse. During these cold  times, leaving the house sounds like a nightmare and getting out of a warm bed sounds almost as bad. Staying home all day can be boring at times, so here is my top 10 list of things to do on an extremely cold day/snow day. 1.  Watch a movie- Grab the popcorn and turn on your favorite movie. One of my favorite go to movies is Despicable Me. 2.  Take a nap- Use your time wisely. You never know when you'll get the chance to take a nap. If you have the time now to take a nap. Do it! 3.  Bake cookies- What could be better than a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven on a cold day? 4.  Read a book- Grab a new book off your shelf or one of your favorites along with a fuzzy blanket. Curl up on th...

Good-Bye 2014!

Image
Dear 2014 , You have been an okay year. You were not the greatest year but you also were not the worst year.  However, I will say that I was not sad to say good-bye to you. You brought with you some amazing times and memories and some not so great times and memories. 2014 started out by teaching me the true definition of "freezing cold".  That was something I could have lived without. Then in May, you once again handed to my family the cards of pain and grief of losing a loved one. Because of that, I will always hate you, 2014.  As the year went on, some new friendships started, some friendships grew and some ended. For each of those friendships that started, grew, or ended, I will always be thankful for. Over the summer, you brought me an amazing father/daughter trip to one of our favorite places to visit and a new place we can not wait to visit again. On this trip, I learned that being in the car for 14+ hours is not a good idea and I should probably have gotten out o...

Fried Chicken

Image
Homemade Fried Chicken This is the recipe that my family uses. When we make fried chicken, we do not necessarily measure out each ingredient. These are all roughly the measurements of what we use. When making this recipe for you and your family, use spices and amounts of each that you and your family like.     What you'll need... Chicken (I make one leg and one thigh per person) 2 eggs 1 cup flour 1 tablespoon onion powder 1 tablespoon garlic powder 1/2 tablespoon season salt 1 tablespoon black pepper kosher salt Vegetable oil To Make Fried Chicken... Heat about one inch of oil in a deep skillet to about 350 Degrees F. In a bowl, mix flour, onion powder, garlic powder, season salt, and half of the black pepper. In a separate bowl, scramble eggs and mix in a dash of kosher salt and the other half of the black pepper.  Pat dry the chicken with paper towels and dip in the egg mixture. After chicken is dipped in egg, coat chicken ...

Sadness of September

Image
The month of September is a very emotional month for family and for myself. September brings birthdays, wedding anniversaries, cornfest, and anniversaries of the passing of my Grandpa and Grandma. Just as anyone else would say about their own grandparents, my Grandma and Grandpa were two of the greatest people I have ever known. They were full of love for each other and full of love for everyone else. Words can not begin to explain how much we miss them both each and every day. My Grandpa and I summer 2009 I was very lucky to have spent the last month of my grandpa's life with him. I was able to gain a month of memories that I will hold in my heart forever. On September 27, 2013 my family and I got to say our final good-byes to such a wonder man who will forever be in our hearts.   My brothers and I with our Grandma. Summer 2013 After my Grandpa passed away, my Grandma moved in with my family. Four days shy of the two year anniversary of my Grandpa's pas...

Dear Future Me,

Dear future me, There are so many questions I want to ask you! There are so many things I want to know about you! Did you graduate college yet? Have you gotten married? Have you had kids? Where do you live? Do you work? If so, where? Did you ever figure out how to do winged eyeliner without looking like a total mess? Although I have all these questions, there are a few things I want to remind you of just in case you have forgotten. . The first thing I want to remind you of is very important. I want to remind you of all the bad, upsetting, and trying time you have had. You may be wondering why I want you to remember these times that you have tried so hard to forget; but trust me, there is a reason. Just think back to them. Do you remember? It's because of those times that you are where you are today. Yes, the good, happy times play a part in the success you're living today but it's because you worked hard, stayed positive, and looked toward your future during those r...
